Dragon Stone

Dragon Stone, also known as Ohko Stone, is one of the world’s most popular aquascaping rocks. Instantly recognisable by its intricate, weathered texture and earthy brown tones, Dragon Stone is a favourite among aquascapers for creating natural landscapes, dramatic cliffs and lush planted aquarium layouts.

Its unique appearance, featuring countless holes, crevices and rugged contours, mimics weathered rock formations found in nature. Dragon Stone is incredibly versatile and works beautifully as the centrepiece of an Iwagumi-inspired layout or combined with natural aquarium wood to create realistic forests, valleys and mountains.

Each piece is completely unique, with its own shape, texture and character, allowing you to create a truly one-of-a-kind aquascape.

Water Parameters

Unlike many natural aquarium stones, Dragon Stone is generally considered inert and has little to no effect on pH, KH or GH. This makes it an excellent choice for aquascapers keeping soft-water fish, shrimp and heavily planted aquariums where stable water parameters are important.

As Dragon Stone is a natural clay-based rock, some pieces may contain small amounts of compacted clay. We recommend thoroughly rinsing and gently brushing each stone before use to remove any loose material.

Aquascaping Uses

  • Perfect for Nature Aquarium and Iwagumi-inspired layouts
  • Ideal for creating mountain ranges, cliffs and rocky landscapes
  • Excellent for combining with aquarium wood to create natural scenes
  • Provides attachment points for mosses and epiphytic plants such as Anubias and Bucephalandra
  • Creates natural shelter and hiding places for fish and shrimp

How Much Will I Need?

The amount required depends on the style of aquascape and the size of stones used, but as a general guide:

  • 30L aquarium: 5–8kg
  • 60L aquarium: 8–15kg
  • 90L aquarium: 15–25kg
  • 120L aquarium: 20–35kg

For dramatic layouts with large feature stones, many aquascapers use the higher end of these ranges.
